Jewelry Boxes - 3 Tips to Keep in Mind When Searching for a Jewelry Box

Sometimes you are out shopping for items which you know you'll use just once and throw away, and other times you're after something which you will be using everyday. And then there are times when you're buying for a perfectionist - like say, your wife. Can anybody out there relate? Come on, guys you know what I mean (the ladies are just shaking their heads right now, I bet.) That's right, often times those closest to us have some pretty exacting definitions of what they would like to receive for a gift. And the rest of us are left trying to figure it out.
I was in this situation just a couple weeks ago when my wife's birthday was drawing close. We had been cleaning out the house during the spring and we were both shocked at just how disorganized we had allowed our "stuff" to become. My wife in particular, seized onto the fact that her jewelry was hard to find now. She had long since outgrown her old jewelry box given to her by her during the first Stone Age (her words, not mine!) And so she wanted a new one - oh hubby! And so began my search for an item that I knew nothing about and would never use myself, but I knew it would bring a smile. Since I learned a lot in the process, I decided to write this article to share my experiences and give you a few tips.
Tip number one when shopping for a jewelry box is to size up the recipient - whether that's you or someone else. Now what do I mean by that? I mean look at their personality and their use of jewelry. Does she like princesses and pink and flowers? Or is she more of a modern, high-luxury personality? This one tip alone will almost guarantee the success of your gift giving, because if you nail their personality right off the bat you can be sure that you give her the a jewelry box that looks compatible to her! Trust me on this, I learned the hard way.
Secondly, look at what kind of jewelry box she uses now - if any - and get a good idea of how much jewelry she has. Not only that, how much does she wear on a daily basis, versus what she wears only on special occasions. If she has a lot, you'll want to look for jewelry boxes which have multiple compartments and are large enough. When in doubt, always go bigger. Many jewelry boxes also contain ring rolls for storing her rings, and snaps for securing necklaces in place. Get what she'll need, based on what she already has. And set yourself up to succeed too by getting her a gift which shows that you put some thought into it!
Lastly, consider your price point. Quality jewelry boxes range from anywhere under a hundred dollars to far more depending on size, number of compartments, and generally speaking the look of refinement. You'll do well to think about how much you want to spend, but a jewelry box is a luxury item which holds other luxury items. Whatever you do, don't skimp and get something cheap looking! You want everything to go together in terms of quality - and so does she. Check out solid brands like Mele and Reed and Barton. Follow these few tips and you'll be well on your way to getting a great jewelry box, but most importantly you'll be nurturing someone else by showing your thoughtfulness. In my opinion, this is far more important than features and benefits. Thanks for reading!

Diamond Fluorescence - A Guide For The Diamond Buyer

Diamond fluorescence is one of the least understood properties of diamonds, largely because the attitude of dealers and collectors to fluorescence has changed over the years. The bottom line, of course, is how it affects the value of a diamond. Unfortunately, if you ask any ten experts this question, you'll probably get ten different answers from them. There are very few topics which provoke more controversy among diamond experts.
Fluorescence is the quality that some stones have of glowing when subjected to ultraviolet light (UV or "black light"). This can be anything from a very faint glow to a very strong effect. There are a couple of practical effects of fluorescence. First, it tends to improve the appearance of diamond color. So if an H color diamond, for instance, has medium blue fluorescence, its color may appear a couple of grades higher. The other effect, however, is not as attractive. The more fluorescent a stone is, the more likely it is to have a slight haziness which will affect the brilliance of the diamond.
Many jewelers will tell you that fluorescence is a negative quality in a stone, but there are many people who actually like fluorescent stone. And that's pretty sensible, because the fluorescence detracts nothing form the fire and flash of the stone while it makes them look a little whiter than they actually are. In any case, this is usually a very subtle effect and you probably won't even notice that your diamond is fluorescent until you happen to see it under ultraviolet light.
Fluorescence is almost always blue, but there are diamonds which fluoresce in other colors. One of the most famous examples is the celebrated Hope Diamond. This dark blue diamond actually fluoresces blood red under ultraviolet light.
A number of recent studies have tended to contradict the instinct of most jewelers by saying that the fluorescence has very little impact on a stone's appearance. Probably this prejudice of dealers stems from the 1950s, when diamonds with fluorescence were highly favored and sold at a premium as "blue-white" diamonds. This was largely a marketing scam and after black lights became common in the 1970s, the color was exposed as fluorescence and blue-white diamonds weren't much heard of after that.
However, when you are buying a diamond, you should check it for fluorescence. This is probably not going to be a major factor in the appeal of the stone unless it is very strong, but even then it is not necessarily something which detracts from the stone's appearance.
If you're considering buying a stone with a color grade somewhere between J and M, then a slight to moderate blue fluorescence will make the stone more attractive.

Exquisite Wedding Bands Made of 22 Carat Gold

Pure 24 carat gold is soft and can be easily bent. It is generally mixed with some other metal to give it strength and durability. For beautiful pieces of gold jewelry, 22 carat is best though 18 carat also looks good. In fact diamonds show its best color in 18 carat gold jewelry. A wedding ring or wedding band is a ring that indicates the marriage of the person wearing it. It is usually worn on the base of third finger of the left hand, also called the ring finger. This custom of wearing a wedding band began in Europe and was originally worn only by women. However, in early 20th century, husbands too began to wear the wedding ring.
According to custom, the wedding ring or band is the last of a series of gifts that are given by the groom to the bride. Nowadays, the double ring marriage ceremony when both the bride and groom exchange the wedding band is quite common and once the ring is placed on the finger it is not removed, unless the marriage is dissolved or one of the couple dies. It symbolically declares eternal love one may have for the other. This ceremony is a modern innovation and the designs of both rings are almost similar, with the groom wearing a heavier and thicker wedding band than the bride. Normally, these wedding bands are made of 22 carat gold and are smooth.
Matching wedding rings in white gold, embossed wedding rings, and designer etchings on the wedding band, unique and fancy wedding bands, and even braided wedding rings are available. Every ring is guaranteed with a lifetime warranty and jewelers stand by their superb craftsmanship and skill to make each wedding band unique.
Jewelry is worn on almost every joyous occasion. A gold necklace is worn by women in many countries and it is a sign of prosperity as it is made of 22 carat gold. There are different types of gold necklaces that are available in amazing designs, shapes and sizes to suit every woman's desire. Yellow gold and white gold necklaces with rose quartz, diamonds, pearls, emeralds, and rubies are all available and depend on the amount a woman may want to spend on her gold necklace. Some designers try and fulfill international demands and specifications and keep their quality high. Jewelers are always trying to make new styles and designs to attract the modern woman. Some consist of a simple gold chain with a pendant whereas the modern Indian bride will definitely wear jewelry that is heavy and solid.
